Consistent with the data in Fig. 2A,B, infection with ∆U∆T/ExoS (G+A−) led to increased levels of Bax and the three isoforms of Bim (BimL, BimEL, and BimS, which can all induce apoptosis45,46), in the mitochondrial fraction of infected HeLa cells (Fig. 2C). The gene discussed is BAX; the disease is infection.
