Endpoints of this study included: (1) characterizing the extent of pulmonary inflammation based on recovered BAL cell numbers and cell type; (2) assessing whether the HDM allergen mouse model captured the hallmarks of allergic airway inflammation, including an IgE antibody response, subepithelial inflammation of airways, pulmonary eosinophilia, and mucin production; and (3) defining the expression patterns of various genes and proteins involved in immune and antioxidant responses to gain insight into PM modulation of the allergic immune response. The gene discussed is IGHE; the disease is inflammation.
