Importantly, neurodegenerative diseases manifest in an abnormal buildup of proteins in the brain/tissue, i.e., β-amyloid in AD, misfolded Huntington protein in HD, aggregation of ubiquitinated proteins in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis [5], Tau and β-amyloid accumulation in MS plaques [6], α-synuclein accumulation in PD, and Tau neurofibrillary tangles in traumatic brain injuries [7]. Here, MAPT is linked to amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
