Although we have reported that target cell expression of ezrin is required for efficient HIV-1 infection (Kubo et al., 2008), contradictory reports show that other members of the ERM family restrict retrovirus infection (Naghavi et al., 2007; Haedicke et al., 2008; Capalbo et al., 2011; Brégnard et al., 2013; Li et al., 2016). The gene discussed is ETV5; the disease is HIV-1 infection.
