Plasticity in KC synapses can be induced by coincident activity of compartment-specific dopaminergic neurons (DANs), which predominantly leads to synaptic depression (honey bee: Mauelshagen, 1993; Grünewald, 1999; Drosophila: Hige et al., 2015a) but can additionally lead to recruitment of MBON activity (see Okada et al., 2007; Strube-Bloss et al., 2011, 2016). This evidence concerns the gene CALCA and depressive disorder.
