Chronic HCV infection can lead to increased insulin resistance as hepatitis C virus impairs the hepatocyte insulin signaling pathway in multiple ways [10], including (i) increased production of tumor necrosis factor-α, (ii) phosphorylation of the insulin receptors, (iii) the overexpression of the suppressor of cytokines (SOC-3), and (iv) induction of SOC-7 [11–13].
