The PNPLA3 "M" variant has been associated with increased hepatic steatosis and fibrosis in patients with viral hepatitis (both HCV and HBV), non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) [2] and alcoholic liver disease (ALD) [3], [4], [5], [6]. Here, PNPLA3 is linked to metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease.
