LOX and myocardial infarction: Although the data available in this regard are scarce, it has been recently reported that hypoxia reduced heart fibrosis after myocardial infarction in mice (Nakada et al., 2017), and that upregulation of lysyl oxidase, an enzyme contributing to changes in the structure of collagen and elastin fibers, is associated with enhanced oxidative stress that promotes structural alterations and vascular stiffness, and could play a potential role in cardiac remodeling (El Hajj et al., 2017; Galán et al., 2017; Varona et al., 2017).
