In one, the authors attempted to ameliorate the vascular hyperpermeability in lung tissue resulting from cytokine response to influenza infection by administering a soluble ligand that acts as an inhibitor of VEGF‐induced vascular permeability.38 They found both reduced lung hyperpermeability and reduced mortality in the treated mice with no effect on either cytokine levels or viral load. Here, VEGFA is linked to influenza.
