HNF1A-DM patients reportedly have lower LDL-c levels and higher HDL-c levels than T2DM patients [28, 29], and liver-specific knockout of HNF1A in mice resulted in low LDL-c levels, which might be attributed to decreased proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9 (PCSK9) and increased LDL receptor expression [30]. This evidence concerns the gene PCSK9 and type 2 diabetes mellitus.
