Might our findings point to treatment strategies for gliomas that incorporate PARP inhibition, as is now standard for patients with breast and ovarian cancers that are associated with mutations of BRCA1 and BRCA2? Unfortunately, recent data from early phase clinical trials in children and adults with recurrent gliomas suggest that the combination of TMZ and ABT-888 may not have the same efficacy in patients with gliomas. The gene discussed is PARP1; the disease is ovarian carcinoma.
