The APC AJ founder mutation is unique as it does not present with the typical presentation of familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP) syndrome or even of attenuated FAP syndrome, but rather appears to only increase the risk for colorectal cancers in the AJ population by creating a hyper mutable region of the gene (Bahar et al., 2001; Laken et al., 1997). Here, APC is linked to colorectal cancer.
