These authors reported that the ethanol extract (a) reduced xylene-induced ear edema in mice, (b) attenuated arthritis in rats induced by complete Freund's adjuvant, and (c) reduced TNF-α and IL-1β levels in the arthritis model, suggesting that the antiarthritic actions are at least partially due to a suppression of proinflammatory cytokines. The gene discussed is IL1B; the disease is arthritic joint disease.
