Our results on the expression of candidate genes involved in the intestinal barrier function (ZO-1 and OCLN) and immunity response (IL10, TNF-α and COX-2) showed no differences between FUT1AA and FUT1AA piglets, however, it could be possible that the differences due to FUT1 variants were not sufficient to demonstrate differences in these gene markers that are generally stimulated after infection, indeed our animals stayed healthy until the end of the trial. Here, PTGS2 is linked to infection.
