LDHA and cancer: Exploiting our knowledge of the critical role of Wnt/β-catenin signaling in oral CSC activities8,9 and the suggested new role for the old antihelminthic niclosamide as an effective inhibitor of the Wnt/β-catenin signaling10–14, in the present study, we provide evidence that ALDH+ human oral squamous cell carcinoma cells are characterized by upregulated expression of pluripotency transcription factors and exhibit enhanced cancer stemness (Fig. 1).
