ACE and Hypertension: Compared to control patients, patients with acute MI were older, had higher rates of hypertension, diabetes and smoking, were more frequently treated with aspirin, ACE inhibitors/ angiotensin II receptor blockers and statins, and had lower levels of plasma LDL-cholesterol, HDL-cholesterol, total cholesterol, apolipoprotein-A, parathormone, and slightly higher levels of glycated hemoglobin (Table 1).
