MET and neoplasm: In contrast, neutrophils can also induce lysis of tumour cells via hypochlorus acid produced from reactive oxygen species (ROS).14 Of note, the MET proto-oncogene is expressed in neutrophils and is required for neutrophil chemoattraction and cytotoxicity towards tumour cells in response to its ligand hepatocyte growth factor.15 Neutrophils can kill tumour cells via TNF-α expression.11 Furthermore, neutrophils stimulated by interferons release tumour necrosis factor-related apoptosis-inducing ligand (TRAIL) which induces tumour cell apoptosis.16
