Increasing evidence suggests Manf participates in neurite outgrowth and neuronal differentiation (Tseng et al., 2017) as well as protection against cell damage in Parkinson’s disease (Voutilainen et al., 2009), cerebral ischemia (Airavaara et al., 2009), and endoplasmic reticulum stress (Apostolou et al., 2008; Hellman et al., 2011). This evidence concerns the gene MANF and brain ischemia.
