Although the etiology of preeclampsia stills remains to be further elucidated, it is widely accepted that the increased production of soluble fms-like tyrosine kinase 1 (sFlt-1), soluble endoglin, and likely other factors in placenta by placental hypoxia/ischemia accounts for the occurrence of preeclampsia (De Vivo et al. 2008). This evidence concerns the gene ENG and preeclampsia.
