In the field of depression and anxiety-related disorders, the background potassium channel TREK-1 (Twik related potassium channel 1) has been one of the first targets for which deletion of its gene (Kcnk2−/−) in mice resulted in a depression-resistant phenotype highlighted by behavioral tests (Heurteaux et al., 2006). This evidence concerns the gene KCNK2 and major depressive disorder.
