EPHA4 and mood disorder: Interestingly, augmented EPHA4-EPHEXIN1 signaling in the prefrontal cortex and hippocampus has been related to depressive-like behavior observed after repetitive social defeat stress (Zhang et al., 2017), unveiling that pathways that canonically play a pivotal role during development may also be relevant in mature brain, perhaps favoring the development of some mood disorders.
