In previous Modification of Diet in Renal Disease (MDRD) study, proteinuria has been described to be a major predictor in rapid eGFR decline in most patients (Hunsicker et al., 1997[11]) and it has been supported by a prospective observational study by Zoppini et al. which included type 2 diabetic patients and the strongest predictor of annual GFR decline was albuminuria followed by older age, hypertension, insulin treatment and lower baseline eGFR (Zoppini et al., 2012[35]). This evidence concerns the gene INS and hypertensive disorder.
