Herhaus et al. showed that in AML, where the CXCR4-CXCL12 axis is crucially involved in attraction and retention of leukemic cells into the protective BM niche, CXCR4-directed imaging with [68Ga]Pentixafor was able to identify patients with CXCR4-positive AML [92]. This evidence concerns the gene CXCL12 and acute myeloid leukemia.
