Epidemiology studies show that FTO SNPs (including rs9939609, rs17817449, rs8050136, rs1477196, rs6499640, rs16953002, rs11075995, and rs1121980) and overweight/obesity are strongly associated with an increased risk of various types of cancers, including breast cancer, prostate cancer, kidney cancer, endometrial cancer, pancreatic cancers, lymphoma, and leukemia (24–29). The gene discussed is FTO; the disease is obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
