FTO and breast cancer: In 2014, Zheng et al. developed a selective FTO inhibitor that also selectively inhibits the m6A demethylase activity of FTO and increases the m6A levels in cells (95); a later study showed that this FTO inhibitor (i.e., MO-I-500) could significantly inhibit the survival and/or colony formation of human SUM149 cells, a triple-negative inflammatory breast cancer cell line (97).
