In summary, in the present study we demonstrated that during cigarette smoking the inflammation inducer and PPAR gamma inhibitor Wnt5a as well as pro-inflammatory cytokines can be carried to every organ in the human body in various types of extracellular vesicles triggering systemic inflammation and making COPD a complex disease that is hard to control. The gene discussed is PPARG; the disease is chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
