Eyes (undissected) of foetuses exhibited increased mRNA expression of pro-inflammatory mediators with a variable profile depending on timing after exposure to IL-1β-induced chorioamnionitis (Fig. 2A–C); at birth, increased protein levels of IL-1β, IL-6 and IL-8 were detected in the eyes (Fig. 2D–F); these were normalized by 101.10, but not by Kineret with the exception of IL-8 attenuation. Here, IL1B is linked to chorioamnionitis.
