Atezolizumab was approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in October 2016 for the treatment of metastatic non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) in patients whose disease progressed during or following traditional platinum-based therapy, or targeted therapy in patients harboring the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) mutation or anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK) fusion.
