ERVW-1 and cancer: Therefore, as the expression of HERV-K Env was reported to be linked to important human diseases, like cancer, and recently also to neurodegeneration [31], we used the CRISPR/Cas9 gene-editing to disrupt the HERV-K(HML-2)env gene to evaluate the effects on cultured cells, with the ultimate aim to provide a tool for future innovative therapies.
