In the NOD mouse model of gastroparesis, animals that retain normal gastric emptying have normal ICC networks and CD206-positive, HO1-positive M2 macrophages (anti-inflammatory spectrum) in the muscularis propria, while animals developing delayed gastric emptying demonstrated damage in ICC networks and express CD206-negative and HO1-negative M1 macrophages (pro-inflammatory spectrum) [7].
