When we analyzed separately MPI supernatants and lysates (instead of pooling them as above), we showed that, in both compartments, there were fewer bacteria recovered following ΔLasBp0 infection (Figure 4C), and that quantitatively, the highest number of bacteria was recovered in the supernatants of cells infected with WTpLasB (Figure 4C and not shown), demonstrating that LasB was acting mainly by allowing PAO1 to survive in the supernatant.
