BACE1 and Alzheimer disease: On the contrary, miR-29b-3p displays opposite regulation in MS and AD compared to prion diseases, as it is downregulated in normal appearing white matter (NAWM) (Noorbakhsh et al., 2011) and in chronic MS lesions (Lau et al., 2013); the same miRNA is decreased in the anterior temporal cortex and cerebellum of AD patients with increased BACE1 expression (Hebert et al., 2008).
