The aim of this work is to examine the effectiveness of AS-48 alone and in combination with lysozyme, an antimicrobial enzyme widely distributed in various biological fuids and tissues, against P. acnes. Lysozyme forms part of the innate immune system to treat local site-specific infections produced by P. acnes. The combination of AS-48 and lysozyme was effective against planktonic cells as well as biofilms of P. acnes, as it has been proved using a range of microscopy and bioassay techniques. The gene discussed is LYZ; the disease is infection.
