Sandholzer, et al. found that concentrations of both LDL and Lp(a) were very low in subjects with lipoprotein lipase deficiency and Type III hyperlipidemia [17]. Reductions of Lp(a) strongly correlated with reductions of LDL and apolipoprotein B in trials of proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9 (PCSK9) inhibitors [20]. The gene discussed is PCSK9; the disease is familial lipoprotein lipase deficiency.
