The later impairment of glucose uptake (Nicholson et al., 2010; Ding et al., 2013) and decreased levels of glutamine (Sancheti et al., 2014a) observed in 3xTg-AD mice is likely to reduce the activity of the hexosamine pathway leading to tau hyperphosphorylation and tangles formation (Oddo et al., 2003; Carroll et al., 2010; Gatta et al., 2016). This evidence concerns the gene MAPT and Alzheimer disease.
