Finally, our results demonstrated that FHL-1:Y402, but not the AMD risk variant FHL-1:H402 or the full-length CFH, significantly downregulated the expression of CERS2, which participates in de novo and salvage ceramide synthesis pathways, and of UGCG, involved in glucosylceramide synthesis, in the presence and absence of MAA-BSA (Fig 4F and 4G). Here, CERS2 is linked to age-related macular degeneration.
