NAFLD is associated with both arrest of hepatocyte proliferation and upregulation of hepatic NIK (Richardson et al., 2007; Inaba et al., 2015; Sheng et al., 2012; Shen et al., 2014; Collin de l'Hortet et al., 2014), prompting us to test if elevated hepatic NIK is responsible for impairment in liver regeneration under the disease conditions. This evidence concerns the gene MAP3K14 and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease.
