Although the components of the NLRP3 inflammasome (Nlrp3, Asc, and Casp1) are required for the normal mammalian host response to C. albicans and play a role in the processing and secretion of IL-1β and IL-18, to our knowledge, evidence of pyroptosis during mammalian infection has not been reported previously. Here, NLRP3 is linked to infection.
