Most of the earlier studies demonstrated a decrease in serum concentration of fetuin-A, particularly in hematological malignancies as tumors progressed [64,65], but it was not clear whether this decrease was as a result of reduced synthesis by the liver (fetuin-A being a negative acute phase protein), or whether the tumor cells actively consumed the fetuin-A from the micro-environment and ultimately the blood. This evidence concerns the gene AHSG and hematologic disorder.
