ACE and Hypertension: As we have described, the polyphenols found in seaweeds, particularly sargachromenol D and phlorotannins, have been proposed to have an important potential in the prevention of hypertension, maybe due to their potent ACE inhibitory activity, antagonism of L-type Ca2+ channels or endothelin ETA/B2 receptors, as well as to their antioxidant effects.
