Senescence is executed by the activation of two major tumor suppressor pathways, the p19ARF (p14ARF in human)‐p53 and p16INK4a‐pRB pathways, which play critical roles in the induction and maintenance of cell cycle arrest during senescence (Ben‐Porath & Weinberg, 2005; Sherr, 2001). This evidence concerns the gene CDKN2A and neoplasm.
