A similar association between serum levels of BAFF and other disease-specific autoantibodies has been reported, for example anti-dsDNA or anti-Smith antibodies in SLE [9, 10, 13, 16, 22, 40, 41], rheumatoid factor (RF) or anti-CCP antibodies in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) [10, 42], and RF or anti-SSA/B antibodies in Sjögren’s syndrome [14], suggesting a close relationship between BAFF and autoantibody production. This evidence concerns the gene TNFSF13B and Sjogren syndrome.
