A more recent study demonstrates a novel molecular mechanism whereby hypoxia-induced upregulation of the splicing factor SF3B1 (Splicing factor 3B subunit 1) causes mis-splicing of ketohexokinase and triggers the onset of cardiac hypertrophy by enforcing fructolysis (Mirtschink et al. 2015). Here, SF3B1 is linked to cardiac hypertrophy.
