Taken together, our results confirm that the use of more stringent criteria for EC classification, combined plasmatic levels of IL-18 and IP-10, and a frequency of CD8+CD38+HLA-DR+ T cells could help to identify individuals with true preserved immune integrity, which is essential in the search for correlates of a functional cure in HIV-1 infection.
