Regarding the potential diagnostic value of I-FABP measured in plasma (I-FABPp) and urine (I-FABPu) for the detection of NEC, Schurink et al. demonstrated that a sensitivities for both I-FABPp and I-FABPu dropped to 11–77% and 5–50% respectively, with specificities soon equalling 100% [24]. This evidence concerns the gene FABP2 and necrotizing enterocolitis.
