TYR and age-related macular degeneration: Ocular pigmentation was shown to be correlated to the incidence of uveal melanoma (Weis et al., 2006) and age-related macular degeneration (Chakravarthy et al., 2010) and tyrosinase, the key enzyme for melanin biogenesis, was found to be a potential factor for developing early stages of age-related macular degeneration (Holliday et al., 2013).
