In the Chronic Renal Insufficiency Cohort (CRIC), plasma levels of the cytokines interleukin1β (Il-1β), the interleukin-1 receptor antagonist (IL-1RA), interleukin-6 (IL-6), tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α, as well as high sensitivity C-reactive protein (CRP) and fibrinogen were higher among participants with reduced levels of estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) [12], and are associated with progressive loss of kidney function [13]. The gene discussed is IL6; the disease is chronic kidney disease.
