To investigate the expression of target genes, the normalized mRNA levels measured in cholesteatoma samples were compared to those of normal skin samples of control individuals.Although the KRT1 and KRT10 genes located on different chromosomes (KRT1: 12q12-q13; KRT10: 17q21) they are expressed together during the terminal differentiation of keratinocytes in a coordinated fashion, their protein products form functional dimers during IF formation. The gene discussed is KRT1; the disease is cholesteatoma.
