A wide-genome analysis for SNPs associated with breast cancer within 3′UTRs that modify miRNA binding sites identified two SNPs, one in the BRCA1 3′UTR that created a binding site for the miR-638 and decreased the levels of BRCA1 protein in breast cancer cells whereas the other was in the TGFBR1 3′UTR and created a binding site for miR-268 [224]. This evidence concerns the gene BRCA1 and breast cancer.
