These findings suggest that marked elevation of FRMs is required in DIC while MHA is required in TMA; the diagnosis of TTP among TMA requires a markedly decreased ADAMTS13 level [14], that of STEC-HUS requires the detection of a STEC infection [15] and that of aHUS requires the detection of abnormalities in the complement system [16]. The gene discussed is ADAMTS13; the disease is thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura.
