It has been proposed that CARD14 mutations lead to enhanced NF-kB activation and up-regulation of a subset of psoriasis-associated genes in keratinocytes, which up-regulates an acute inflammatory response throughout excessive activation of NF-kB responsive genes and initiating the recruitment of the inflammatory infiltrate where CARD14 seems to be a regulator of skin inflammation [31].
